Description
Masseria Antoglia is a fortified farmhouse that stands on a large agricultural property whose origins date back to the beginning of the 14th century.
The history of the farmhouse begins with the construction of the Antoglietta fortress tower, built by the Nantoli family in the Middle Ages.
It was later renovated and used as a fortification, with the construction of a crenellated tower, by Prince Giovanni Antonio Orsini Del Balzo in the 15th century and protected by high courtyard walls.
The property will pass to Giacomo dell’Antoglietta, baron of Monteiasi, from which the name Antuglia.
The new wing of the tower, always used as a residence, was built in the late 1800s.
The large shed, built in the 18th century, was used for storing straw and storing trailers and agricultural machinery.
In the first half of the 18th century, the oil mill was incorporated into the original structure, which later became a home, and later the stables and the snow house were incorporated, while the farmers' houses were built at the beginning of the 19th century.
The castle/farmhouse was later renovated and used as a ducal palace. In 1822 a chapel was built, dedicated to the Holy Crucifix, which in 1830 was elevated to a parish and consecrated by the bishop of Oria.
Masseria Antoglia extends over a front of about 170 meters, and is made up of various buildings. In the central part stands the Ducal Castle with the crenellated tower, in which most of our rooms are located, together with the large shed and the palmento, which until the beginning of the 1900s was used for pressing grapes.
