The Spanish Steps were built between 1723 and 1725 to connect the Piazza di Spagna (at the bottom) with the Trinità dei Monti church (at the top). The grand staircase, designed by architect Francesco de Sanctis, was funded by the French diplomat Étienne Gueffier. The name "Spanish Steps" comes from the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See, which has been located in the square since the 17th century. Over the centuries, the steps have become one of Rome's most iconic landmarks, attracting artists, writers, and travelers from around the world.

Description
The Spanish Steps consist of 135 steps arranged in a unique butterfly-like design, featuring terraces, curves, and balustrades. At the bottom of the steps, in Piazza di Spagna, is the Fontana della Barcaccia, a Baroque-style fountain sculpted by Pietro Bernini and Gian Lorenzo Bernini in the early 17th century. The steps lead up to the Trinità dei Monti church, which offers a beautiful view of Rome. The area is surrounded by elegant boutiques, historic cafés, and lively street life.
