Galatina is a historic town in the province of Lecce, in the Puglia (Apulia) region of southern Italy. Its origins date back to ancient times, but it gained prominence during the medieval and Renaissance periods. The town was an important center for religious and artistic development, particularly in the 14th and 15th centuries under the influence of the Principality of Taranto and later the Kingdom of Naples.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Galatina’s history is its connection to the tradition of tarantismo, a cultural and folkloric phenomenon linked to the belief that the bite of a tarantula spider could cause a trance-like state, which could only be cured through music and dance. The ritual was often performed in the Basilica di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, a stunning example of Gothic-Romanesque architecture.

Description
Galatina is a charming town filled with Baroque and medieval architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, and vibrant piazzas. It is often called a "mini Lecce" due to its beautiful architecture, but it maintains a quieter, more local feel. Some of its most famous landmarks include:

Basilica di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria – A masterpiece with incredible frescoes from the Giotto school, making it one of the most beautiful churches in Puglia.
Chiesa Madre dei Santi Pietro e Paolo – A significant church in the town, associated with the tarantismo tradition.
Palazzo Baldi and Palazzo Tafuri – Examples of the town’s aristocratic heritage.
Centro Storico – The historic center is a picturesque area filled with ancient buildings, quaint cafés, and boutique shops.
