The area of Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with archaeological findings indicating settlements dating back to the Iron Age. During the medieval period, the village was under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Maurienne, as confirmed by a papal bull in 1184.
