First mentioned probably in the 12th century in the Knýtlinga Saga as "Tikarey" – perhaps derived from the Slavic "sikor" (titmouse).

The parish widow's house, one of the oldest residential buildings on Rügen, was built in 1719/20, later a school and now a museum.

The small village church with a Romanesque choir (~1350) and nave (~1360) is built in the Gothic brick style; There is a baroque pulpit (1653), stained-glass windows from 1595, a medieval bell, and a wooden candlestick from 1868.

Groß Zicker later belonged to Gager, and in 2018 became a district of the municipality of Mönchgut.
