The winter sports town of Chatel is on the border with France and Switzerland. The city is not far from Evian-les-Bains and Thonon-les-Bains and a few kilometers from Avoriaz. It is also part of Portes-du-Soleil.
In the 19th century, the area began to develop into a winter sports resort that attracted tourists. At this time, the first ski lifts were built. It was not until 1970 that the area was merged with the Portes du Soleil.
But not only the ski resort, but also the architectural heritage and the history of the city are of interest to many visitors.
The ski area consists of 80 kilometers of slopes and offers direct access to the Avoriaz ski area as well as to Morgins and Torgon (in Switzerland). In total, there are 650 kilometers of pistes in the Portes du Soleil area

In Chatel you can see the new gothic church Laurentius from the 20th century. The church was built on the remains of an old building. In the church stained glass windows from the year 1960 can be seen.
